Women play an essential role in all stages of life, from being daughters, sisters, wives, and mothers, to be key contributors to society. Despite their invaluable contribution, gender inequality still exists due to various social, political, economic, and psychological barriers.

Empowering women is key to the development of any economy, as it ensures that both men and women can harness their potential. When women are empowered, families and countries are empowered too. Women should be guaranteed access to education and career opportunities equal to those of men, and have adequate support from their families and a fair division of household chores. What is really needed is a change in people’s attitudes toward gender equality. Women must get access to all resources and credit and should be enabled to exercise their full potential. By doing so we can truly reap the benefits of true gender equality.

In our country Ethiopia, gender equality has been a pressing issue for a long time, but we are proud to see the progress that has been made in giving women greater leadership roles. Our President is a woman and more and more women are being appointed to CEO positions in governmental and non-governmental organizations. We are confident that these women will bring positive change to our country. We applaud their efforts and are sure that they will help to make our country a more equitable place to live. Let’s all continue to strive for gender equality so that every woman can be empowered and enjoy the same rights and opportunities as men.
